Bill Rauser, Founder rauser Professional Contracting Age: 53 Residence: Forest Hill

They're putting up office complexes, warehouses, hotels, retail centers, medical research facilities, grade schools and universities, technology parks, executive homes and affordable housing.  They're working from the Inner Harbor to the outer counties.  They're contractors and construction company executives who are literally building Greater Baltimore's future.  In this issue, the BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL recognizes two dozen leaders in the construction industry for their contributions to the area's ever-changing landscape.  The men and women profiled -- from young people in their 30s to veterans in their 70s -- represent practically every facet of the industry.  They are the faces and personalities behind the wood and steel that form the structures of a new century.

 Bill rauser has created one of the area's most prominent custom home building and remodeling companies, with clients throughout the state.

Rauser Professional Contracting won the 1998 award of excellence from the Remodelors Council of the Home Builders Association of Maryland.  Rauser, who graduated from Loyola College, founded the Reisterstown-based company in 1981.

The company's current projects include a 3500 square-foot home, a two-story addition and alteration, a lower-level alteration, and a third-story addition and alteration.

Rauser has become known not only for his company's work, but also for efforts to educate the public about custom home building.  He conducts seminars to discuss myths associated with building a custom house and stresses the importance of communication between the customer and builder.

Rauser recently participated in a charity event sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Maryland to support the children's house at Johns Hopkins Medical Center.
